| Folks here in the Philippines wed for keeps, or at least at the time they are doing it, truly and fervently believe that they are getting wed for keeps, that is, they will stay wedded with one another until death do eventually them part. Thus, it is important, possibly imperative, for them to get their weddings done right the first time around. There maybe, after all, very little chance that there will be a second time around. Now, how do we get weddings done right the first time around? How do we ensure that weddings do not become hit-or-miss, trial-and-error affairs? Well, naturally by preparing for it way, way ahead in advance. To help soon-to-weds prepare for their weddings in advance, here is a checklist of things-to-be-done with corresponding timetable for doing them. 12 TO 10 MONTHS AHEAD - Choose and finalize your wedding date. - Discuss your budget with whoever will be paying to determine the size of the wedding. - Think about the ceremony and reception sites. Consider all options for your budget and ensure the availability of the venues that you have decide on. 9 TO 7 MONTHS AHEAD - Decide on the degree of formality you want for both the ceremony and reception. - Reserve church / ceremony site and reception venue. - Select and finalize your principal sponsors and the members of your entourage. Confirm their acceptance. - Draft your guest list, know their complete name, addresses and contact numbers. - Scout for your wedding gown designer. - Hire a wedding coordinator, if desired. 6 TO 5 MONTHS AHEAD - Start knowing and processing legal documentations for civil and church requirements. - Decide on your wedding theme and color motif. - Meet and finalize designs and fitting schedules for you and your bridesmaids with your designer. - Finalize your guest list. - Select and order your invitations, thank you cards and any other wedding stationary. - Start looking around for prospective wedding suppliers. Canvass and discuss with them. Sample the food, cake and beverages offered to you. Compare products and services available. Know all your options before deciding. 4 MONTHS AHEAD - Start fitting of gowns. - Draft your misalette contents (consult a priest if needed). Have it printed and proof-read - Decide on what the groom and the groomsmen will wear. - Order wedding rings and engraving. - Write and address invitations. - Make plans for your honeymoon. Consult travel agents. - Shop for your wedding souvenirs. Remember that a different set of souvenirs must be prepared for the Principal Sponsors. - Book an event stylist. - Order flowers for the bridal entourage and other needs. - Select the music for the ceremony and reception. Finalize the details with your chosen musicians and entertainers, as well as with the sound system provider. - Order your wedding cake. - Book a photographer and videographer. - Book your caterer. Set up a food tasting date. - Reserve a bridal car. 3 MONTHS AHEAD - Sign up with gift registries in various stores. - Have a trial make up with your preferred hair and make up artist. - Accomplish the church wedding requirements. - Finalize designs with your event stylist. - Finalize honeymoon plans. Book flights & accommodation. - Deliver invitations. - Order the clothes for the groom and the groomsmen. 2 MONTHS AHEAD - Finalize choice of menu and discuss details with your caterer. - Visit your Principal Sponsors and confirm their attendance. - Meet with the priest / officiant and discuss service. - Select your ceremony readings and write your wedding vows. - Set the program for the reception. Select and notify the performers and those who will deliver speeches. - Book an Emcee and discuss the program with him / her. - Reserve the room / venue for the entourage's make up session - Obtain marriage license and certified copies. 1 MONTH AHEAD - Verify details with all suppliers. Ensure delivery on time. - Have final gown fittings for the bride and the entourage. - Pick up wedding rings. Check engravings. - Confirm attendance of guests. Inform the caterer of the final head count. - Draw up the seating arrangement including that of the presidential table. - Arrange for a church rehearsal if desired. - Prepare a Guest Book. 3 WEEKS AHEAD - Pick up bridal and entourage's gown. - Draw up a schedule of events for the wedding day. - Send announcements to newspapaers. - Draw up the seating plan. Write out place-cards if necessary. - Call all suppliers and reconfirm details. 2 WEEKS AHEAD - Buy all items that you think you will need for the wedding . - Wear your wedding shoes at home a few times to break them in. - Make sure that there are no problems with the bridal gown and everything that will be worn with it. - Check if everything's alright with your entourage's outfits. - Assign specific tasks to members of the entourage, friends and family members who can help in getting things organized during the ceremony and during the reception. 1 WEEK AHEAD - Hold the church rehearsal, if you're having one. - Finalize the seating plan. - Confirm details and delivery schedules with all suppliers. - Attend Despedida de Soltera. - Pack for your honeymoon. - Rehearse your speeches. 2 DAYS AHEAD - Turn-over all final details to your coordinator or trusted representative. Provide the list of suppliers with corresponding responsibilities, and their contact numbers. Provide the list of things-to-do, including the payables during the wedding day. - Pack all the things that are needed for the ceremony (wedding rings, bible, cord, arrhae, pillows, matches, unity candle, 2nd veil, misalettes, etc.) and turn over to your coordinator / trusted representative. - Reconfirm bridal car schedule for the ceremony and reception. 1 DAY AHEAD - Check-in with all your luggages , if you will be dressing up in a hotel. - Pamper yourself... Get a facial and body massage, manicure and pedicure... And relax all day long! |
